The cheongsam is a female dress with distinctive Chinese features and enjoys a growing popularity in the international world of high fashion.
The name "cheongsam," meaning simply "long dress," entered the English vocabulary from the dialect of Chinas Guangdong Province (Cantonese). In other parts of the country including Beijing, however, it is known as "qipao", which has a history behind it.
When the early Manchu rulers came to China proper, they organized certain people, mainly Manchus, into "banners" (qi) and called them "banner people" (qiren), which then became loosely the name of all Manchus. The Manchu women wore normally a one-piece dress which, likewise, came to be called "qipao" or "banner dress." Although the 1911 Revolution toppled the rule of the Qing (Manchu) Dynasty, the female dress survived the political change and, with later improvements, has become the traditional dress for Chinese women.
Easy to slip on and comfortable to wear, the cheongsam fits well the female Chinese figure. Its neck is high, collar closed, and its sleeves may be either short, medium or full length, depending on season and taste. The dress is buttoned on the right side, with a loose chest, a fitting waist, and slits up from the sides, all of which combine to set off the beauty of the female shape.
The cheongsam is not too complicated to make. Nor does it call for too much material, for there are no accessories like belts, scarves, sashes or frills to go with it.
Another beauty of the cheongsam is that, made of different materials and to varying lengths, they can be worn either on casual or formal occasions. In either case, it creates an impression of simple and quiet charm, elegance and neatness. No wonder it is so much liked by women not only of China but of foreign countries as well.

China born and China bred, I love China very much. I’m proud that I have got the beautiful yellow skin, black eyes and black hair. I’m also proud that I speak the most beautiful language in the world――Chinese. When I heard that China, our motherland, would have a chance to hold the 2008 Olympic Games, I felt very happy and excited, and I hoped I could do something useful to build China into a beautiful and energetic country.
In the 21st century, the environment is becoming more and more important, so we have "Green Olympic" as a slogan. Of course a slogan is just a goal. The most important thing is that we should do some things to make it true. Such as sorting the trash, saving the energy and so on. We are still students now, so we cant do anything really big, but if everybody does something good for our environment, we could make our motherland more beautiful.
In fact, the things we can do are easy. Like not littering used batteries everywhere, sorting the trash that we want to throw away, and also protecting the animals and plants around us.
Luckily, I had a chance to take part in an activity, that is, we planted 5 trees everybody in our campus. My classmates and I worked very hard. This activity is not only about planting trees, but also contributing to our environment. Look at the trees, I believe, tomorrow there will be more trees and flowers standing in our campus and giving Chinese people a beautiful environment.
We are all Chinese people, living on the earth. We have only one motherland――China, just like we have only one earth. If we dont beautify our environment, who will? Good environment depends on good human consciousness. We should say that protecting our surroundings is not easy, thats why Im standing here to summon people do it.

extreme weather, continual and countless species disappearing, global warming and so on, these all remind us of the urgency of the environment protection.
Problems are there already, so what should we do in order to improve the situation.
We are just some students, we couldn’t make something especially big contribution for the environment, but we can firstly compose up in our environment, from protecting school’s environment, for example: obey the regulation forbidding chaos to throw away various waste, avoid using the drink up, mess tin, plastic bags for one time merely…such can cut down rubbish greatly and also do good to the environment in many aspects.
Although these being minor matter at above, but if everybody gets to do, set about from saving resource and falling off contaminating at once, we are likely to be to protect the earth making a contribution out.

In the last exam of the whole primary school period, I did so well in English that I got a full mark. I found that I could do a perfect job in English if I put my heart on it.
